Record holder challenges cup holder – Showdown between April and Jacob

Exciting relay-projects at the HAJ Hannover Marathon

Both of them are already on the history board of the HAJ Hannover Marathon.
Now it’s time for the big showdown:
When  on the 10th of April 2016, 20.000 runners start in the capital of lower Saxony, there will be a showdown between the elite athletes as well.

Lusapho April from South Africa who won the 2013 Marathon and achieved with 2:08:32 the fastest time ever run in Hanover, is challenging Chesari Kirui Jacob from Kenia who won last years Hanover marathon with a time just 1 Minute slower than April, in his third place finish of the New York Marathon in 2013.

“On my previous starts in Hanover I was always able to deliver my best performance.
After winning the Hanover marathon in 2011 and 2013 I’ll do anything to be the first one to win for the third time in Hanover” - states the likeable crowd pleaser.
April also wants to use the opportunity to run for the course/track record and prove his position in the South African Olympic Team for Rio de Janeiro.
To get ready for the HAJ Hannover Marathon, April will participate at the New York Half Marathon on the 20th of March.
With Duncan Cheruiyot Koech from Kenia there is one more previous winner of the Hanover marathon starting in 2016.
With Martin Kosgey (3. Place in 2014, 4 Place in 2015), Moses Masai (3. Place in World Cup over a distance of 10.000 m) as well as Philipp Sanga Kimutai (all from Kenia) there will be even more exceptional athletes starting in Hanover this year.
In the women’s category Germanys Olympic hope Anna Hahner will compete against Tizita Terecha Dida from Ethiopia and Edinah Kwambai from Kenia.

“We still have some Names in our sleeve”, says Athletes-Manager Christoph Kopp. Due to the fast track and the upcoming Olympic qualifications there are still some requests waiting in line.

As every year, the fans can look forward to some very special relay combinations.
All-Star and Olympic winner Dieter Baumann and Local-Hero Markus Pingpank share the marathon distance and try to escort Anna Hahner.
